He Sheng was another panda chosen for this reintroduction program along with Qian Qian, the panda in the film. He was released into the wild in June 2016, but did not survive.

Wildlife reintroduction efforts can be heartbreaking. But such programs are vital to helping
endangered species avoid extinction. Lessons learned will help improve the program for future pandas. Qian Qian is now fully recovered and will move to a new protected reserve in China by the summer of 2018.
