Sonic wants a rematch to prove who is faster but overshoots and ends up in forest in New York. Then Metal Sonic appears fight him along with an army of Metal Sonics. Before they can attack, a hooded figure wielding a giant hammer appears. It is revealed to be Amy.

After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations.
