Super Bowl 2013 Commercials To Cost Record $4 Million

The rustic tone from Clint Eastwood made me want to buy a Chrysler, or at least it did when I saw the commercial “Halftime in America” during the Super Bowl last year. In the Chrysler ad, Eastwood offers a message in his “Dirty Harry,” “Unforgiven,” gruff voice about the tough America, embodied in Detroit’s car comeback, an industry that “finds a way through tough times.” The car ad was one of the best during the entire game.

Last year’s Super Bowl gave us some memorable moments, and I’m not talking about the Giants repeating against the New England Patriots. Advertising has become as big as the game itself concerning the final showdown of the NFL season. Commercials like ‘Halftime in America’ are the reason some people don’t go to the bathroom during halftime.

Cami Hadley from cable.tv reported that a 30 second spot for 2013’s Super Bowl is selling for an average $3.7 to $3.8 million. Spots in the most coveted time slots are going for well over $4 million. With that kind of money on the line, advertisers have to be on top of their game. Most of these companies will release the commercial online before the Super Bowl, but if you’re a purist and like to watch them live, here are some of the spots to watch out for during Super Bowl 2013:

Bar Refaeli & GoDaddy

Danica Patrick has a new GoDaddy.com partner for this year’s Super Bowl commercial. Supermodel Bar Rafaeli will co-star in the online brand’s latest spot.

This year’s ad will be titled “Perfect Match,” so we can only imagine what GoDaddy will have the both of them do. According to a press release, this will be Rafaeli’s first Super Bowl ad.

“I feel like the ‘Perfect Match’ commercial is a chance to be in an iconic Super Bowl spot that not only leaves people talking, but shows everyone what Go Daddy is really about.”

There’s no telling how much skin she’ll be showing in the commercial, which she is known for pushing the envelope, but it’s a good chance you’ll be offered to “see more at GoDaddy.com.” Just don’t be disappointed when all you find are offers for web hosting.

Anheuser-Busch Comeback

Anheuser-Busch InBev, used to be the king of Super Bowl commercials. The Budweiser Frog and “What’s Up” guy were cornerstones of what made those commercials great, but lately Anheuser-Busch InBev has been lacking compared to other advertisers who have finally caught up.

The rumor last year was that the world’s largest beer makers were partnering with Jay-Z for some high-priced Super Bowl spots, but Anheuser-Busch InBev has since confirmed that the rumors are false, Business Insider reported. The company said this past week that it’s introducing a new specialty beer — Black Crown — an amber lager with higher alcohol content. We’ll see if they have the advertising power to back it up this year.

Doritos ‘Crash The Super Bowl’ Contest

Doritos struck gold with this idea. Not only do they find amateur film makers to make a commercial for them, but they get really great content in return. The Super Bowl contest, now on its seventh run, recently announced the five commercials to be voted on in their annual ‘Crash The Super Bowl’ contest. The winner will get the spotlight of the Super Bowl, a ton of cash and even get to work on the next Transformers movie with Michael Bay.

And all the fancy crisp-makers Doritos has to do is sit back and let it all happen.
